After 7 hours of travel (including pit stops) we finally arrived in Baguio. Many say Baguio has lost its charms, but for some reason we still believe Baguio is a good vacation spot. It must be the cool weather even during the summer months or maybe the fresh produce that can be had all year round.
We’ve been here several times. Usually we just love the fact that we can walk around the city and not feel an ounce of heat. Though Baguio is fast turning its green landscape into gray concrete sceneries, I dare say that Baguio is still one of the best looking cities.
This time we had one specific mission. We would sample all the restaurants humanely possible in three days.
Let me start with probably the most popular food place with the locals. We asked half a dozen people where it is and they all gave specific directions. And what was even more amazing was that some were able to describe the resto’s red and yellow signage.
At the back of the Baguio Center Mall is an old building which houses Good Taste. We were actually overwhelmed the first time we got in. There were so many people inside that you would think they have an ongoing garage sale. At way past lunch time one would think you’d have an easy time choosing your seats, but this joint is so popular we only got seated just before 2 pm.
The wait staff was pretty quick and in no time we were able to order and get the food. The first on our menu was buttered chicken (145 pesos), which is one of their bestsellers. When it arrived, I immediately said I only ordered half a chicken only to be rebutted with: “this is half a chicken”. The serving was so big, the wife and I joked that it was not chicken but turkey. It was a bit sweet and sour. One bite and you’ll know why this is one of the bestsellers.
We also ordered lechon kawali (135 pesos) or pan fried pork. It wasn’t as crispy as other lechon kawalis we’ve tried, but this one was tastier. It wasn’t really a big winner in our books, but again the serving size was bigger than expected
Our meal won’t be complete without their version of fried rice (85 pesos). It was good enough that it could actually be eaten without any other viand.
I bet you can feed a big family with just a thousand peso budget. The serving size was meant to be shared and it was so unfortunate that we only have two stomachs and we still have a couple of food stops after this. If you just want an honest to goodness cheap meal and if you are not so particular with the ambiance then Good Taste is the place to go.

Hello Cheese,
hahaha.. yeah the service is slower that most, probably because of the huge customer traffic. I wouldn't really recommend it, if you are in a hurry or better yet eat at off-peak hours. That way you can also pick a nicer spot. As I remember we had a hard time getting a table since we were there during lunch hour.
How's the food? did you like it?
Thanks for visiting.

it is sad that you did not enjoy it…
But keep on exploring other baguio restos and hopefully you’ll find a great gem.
Cheers!
Posted by optimuspride at April 27, 2010, 9:56 amI am from Baguio and I always try to go home every year. I first tried Good Taste in 2005. It was pretty good. The number of costumers reminded me of an old time fave restaurant in Session called Mother’s Best. So sad that they only lasted few years. But I never had bad experience in Good Taste and I’ve been there so many times since I came to stay for a year last year. Though I agree that the restroom is just few steps away from the tables. Didn’t really like that either. Apart from it all, good food and good service.
I am glad you guys had fun… And yes, I agree that Baguio is no longer that green city we’ve always been projecting. Tagaytay is probably even greener, I think.
Posted by Rosalyn at May 8, 2010, 10:59 pmheya rosalyn,
thanks for dropping by.
Have you tried Saluds (near the grotto)? We believe it is one the best darn resto we’ve tried. they have relocated to Quezon province a few years ago and unfortunately we haven’t found the time to go there.
Cheers!
Posted by optimuspride at May 10, 2010, 9:01 amIt’s just a matter of timing. My friends and I went there past lunch around 1-2pm. The place was still full of people but they were able to serve the food timely enough.
I can compare the place to restaurants in Binondo. I don’t know why but I just felt like the ambiance is kind of like Ongpin minus the Chinese food and the cool air. =)
The food was all good. The Chopsuey (with lechon kawali, I think) is a must-try. The veggies were fresh as expected. The Buttered Garlic Chicken was very delish. =)
We were like ten in a group and our bill was just around 1000php, I think. It was enough for me to loosen my belt and unbutton my jeans to make extra room for my enlarged belly. hihi
The Customer service rating it from 1 to 5, 5 being the highest, I’ll give them 4.0.
I recommend this resto for those food lovers who want to eat more, pay less, yet still get a delicious meal out of it.

Posted by optimuspride at May 12, 2010, 2:55 pmhi, do you have a free delivery??thanks
Posted by dan at May 17, 2010, 12:31 pmhello dan,
This blog is not affiliated with any of the restos featured. I am just an ordinary paying customer.
I am not sure if Good Taste delivers. Maybe somebody who resides in Baguio can answer the question.
Cheers!

can u recommend a good pero cheap hotel lng in baguio?
ty
There are lots of good hotels in Baguio, but “cheap” and “good” are subjective. for Hotels, we usually equate good with “clean” (as in spanking new clean!). We usually go for the newer ones since most probably the beds and bathrooms are still pristine. The last one we tried was Holiday Park Hotel, just a stone throw away from Cafe by the Ruins. It was value for money for us. Hopefully they have maintained the quality of their rooms.

yah the food is really good and tasty…but most of their staff doesnt have hospitality..or should I say,mga hindi naturuan ng good manners…and they are not really into hotel, resort, and restaurant management course thats why they dont know the proper way of service to food and customers!!!
i suggest that they should hire staff who knows the basic f&B service.

Yeah, service is not what you can consider 5 star. Actually the better way to describe it is”carinderia” hospitality , which is not so bad considering the store was not really marketed as a posh restaurant.
If you are just after good food sans classy service then the resto is still worth visiting.
Posted by optimuspride at April 13, 2011, 11:37 amLet me just say that I’m born and raised in Baguio so my family is a patron of this restaurant. I must say that in terms of taste and quantity, Good Taste is really good.
But in terms of staff and costumer service, I won’t lie. It really sucks. They were really rude especially the supervisor. So that’s also the bad side. I wish the staff could at least be oriented with good manners and hospitality.
Sometimes we order take outs instead of eating inside, it just takes too long.
I recommend the 50’s Diner, Honey in the rocks and Future Diner if you’re still in Baguio. They’re also good in terms of quality and quantity if you’re interested.
Posted by pansy25 at May 7, 2011, 7:54 pmGood taste used to be our ‘cuisine’ wayback college years. i love it coz it is open 24/7 so before we get home from a late night out, we make sure to drop by and have a good bite before we head home with our doggie bag.
This resto is recommended for a large group especially if you are the one to take care of the bill afterwards. Well, i can say that during those times i have been there, i did enjoy the food.
Posted by doquer at May 27, 2011, 1:56 pmI am from benguet, and i should say Good taste is one of the underrated restos in baguio.I remembered my cousins from manila, saw the menu and they told me they need to order 2 whole buttered chicken.”Baka kasi kulang” they told me but i was reminding them that the half serving of it would suffice. I grinned and told them “sige iuwi nalang natin kung may matira”, but they challenged me ” gutom kami, walang matitira”… I was laughing at the back of my head that time.. When the food came, they were astounded by the humongous amount of servings. Their challenge of consuming all of it were not true, as they were already full by the first whole order of buttered chicken…
Oh i forgot… did i mention we were at that time, 4? =)
Posted by maki at July 17, 2011, 9:25 amsa good taste kami nag-oorder ng food pag nakaduty sa hospital, especially pag toxic ang trabaho at di na nmamalayan na past dinner time na pala,at wala na food sa dietary ng hospital. for pick-up nga lang ang orders, so meaning ikaw ang pupunta dun para kunin and food. but that’s beside the point. You get Big servings for a reasonable price. I tried ordering for take out one time, and i waited one hour! so yeah, this place is not recommended for those in a hurry or sobrang gutom to the point of hypoglycemia na…
