Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf Breakfast

April 8, 2009

After our Saturday morning errands, we went to Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf (CBTL) for brunch.  Armed with a Belle de Jour Power Planner Buy 1 take 1 coupon, we were able to get two breakfast meals for the price of one (Php 229 only).

A couple of strong brewed coffee gave us a nice perky start.  Since I am not really used to too much caffeine, I had to tame it with a lot of milk and sugar.  After maybe half a liter of milk and half a dozen sugar packets, my coffee was perfect.  Now, there was nothing wrong with CBTL’s concoction, I just like my drink sweet and creamy.

While waiting for my Eggs Ben(edict), I filled my mind with thoughts of Egg Utopia.  I was dreaming of golden liquid flowing out and staining the immaculate white plate, the hollandaise sauce rich and creamy flavor mingling with the luscious yolk.    The cheese, focaccia bread and turkey ham, though delicious in their own right, played second fiddle to the stars of the show.

After a few minutes our orders arrived.  My Eggs Ben looked perfect… but my day dreaming came to an abrupt end when I sliced it in two.  It seemed like the yolk was taken from utopia and thrown into scorching dystopia… it was well done!   I don’t know if they’re afraid of salmonella, but in my humble opinion it was a waste.  The taste was still good, but overall it was far from perfect (because they murdered the egg!).

Good thing, the wife ordered Salmon Scramble. We loved the distinct smoked salmon flavor mingling harmoniously with the fluffy egg clouds.  This is a must try.

Eating breakfast is a good way to start the day.  Having it the CBTL way is not at all a bad idea.  Having a breakfast plate for free is a great bonus.  But next time I’ll insist that they don’t give the egg a hard time. =)

We haven’t used that coupon yet. I’d probably go for the well-done eggs, hindi ako talaga fan ng runny, goopy eggs :)

Have you tried their Toblerone cheesecake? Fattening.

Hey Abi,

Yeah, we used our Buy 1 take 1 cake coupon to try out CBTL’s Toblerone cheesecake. Every calorie was worth it.

Cake 2 Go in Katipunan sells Toblerone cakes. Their version is our favorite.

About Me

loves to eat... loves to go on holidays... chocolate lover... ice cream fanatic... prefers to explore the countryside rather than stay in the "concreteside"... ultimate dream is simply to retire - the earlier the better and hopefully with a nice beachfront house to boot. Until then, I am simply a person stuck in the urban jungle who takes mini-vacations to keep my sanity.

No cheating!
