Smelly Cat... Smelly Cat... What are they feeding you? - Phoebe (Friends)

Bigby’s Cafe and Restaurant

March 30, 2009

If a restaurateur named his business  BIG, then customers will expect huge servings.  The problem with expectation is most of the time it sets the stage for disappointment.

At first glance, one couldn’t understand what the specialty of the place is.  They have this mélange of dishes whose inspiration came from all corners of the globe.  Italian, American, Chinese and Singaporean dishes are just some of the choices.  Usually, we would shy away from restaurants whose specialty is almost about anything, but this time we decided to give it a try.

The first to arrive was Rack-a-bye baby.  For just Php 386 ($8), I didn’t expect it to be big.  Not only was it big, it was soft and falling off the bones.  The barbeque taste was so addicting that I was tempted to pick up the left over bones and gnaw some more.

The second dish was Chix Ahoy.  No, it was not a choco chip studded chicken!  Rather it was sizzling boneless chicken with a garlicky gravy sauce.  Unlike the Barbeque Ribs, it was not love at first sight.  It wasn’t the prettiest meal, but once you get to know this chix you’ll definitely understand why a lot have sworn undying affection.

Since we ordered two signature dishes and got ourselves a promo coupon, we were given a free meal.  We were quite happy and full already with the first two meals, but hey it won’t cost another cent.  Bravely we unbuttoned our pants to let our tummies expand some more.

The FREE Cannelloni Milanese did not display the curves I was expecting.  It was plainly speaking – flat.  But I have learned my lessons… thou shall not judge a food at first glance.  Upon closer inspection, I was delighted to see mozzarella cubes liberally added on top of the white and red sauce.  Digging in, the pasta revealed itself.  Inside the white sheet was chicken, mushroom and spinach, all blending into a delicious medley.

For the size and taste of each meal I give BIGby’s five fat stars.  The only disappointment I got was the extra pounds on the scale the morning after. But there is something else that made this restaurant a BIG winner – customer service.  The staff were so attentive even during peak hours.   And they always had this genuine smile on their faces which will surely make you feel at home.

The tab was around Php 800 ($17), which included 2 bottomless drinks.  Do try to dine here at least once…   Just make sure NOT to wear tight pants.

About Me

loves to eat... loves to go on holidays... chocolate lover... ice cream fanatic... prefers to explore the countryside rather than stay in the "concreteside"... ultimate dream is simply to retire - the earlier the better and hopefully with a nice beachfront house to boot. Until then, I am simply a person stuck in the urban jungle who takes mini-vacations to keep my sanity.

No cheating!
